What are, “limiting beliefs” and why the hell do they matter?
Have you ever said one of the following things to yourself?:
- “I’m my own worst enemy.”
- “Nothing ever works out for me. That’s just my luck!”
- “This is killing me!”
- “Being rich is selfish.”
- “You can’t always get what you want!”
- “You can’t have it all!” (Referring to having an amazing job, family life, financial status, great health, and genuine relationships. What people mean when they say this is that you’d have to sacrifice one vice for the other. Which is entirely untrue!)
Many people don’t realize this, but these are prime examples of limiting beliefs. Most people carry around unnecessary baggage and have negative self-talk daily and don’t even realize it! It is critically important to educate yourselves on limiting beliefs so you can stop self-sabotage at the source and live a life of joy and freedom.
Limiting beliefs are lies we learn early on in our lives that we perceive as the truth. They are NOT our beliefs, but other people’s beliefs that we were strongly influenced by over the years. These beliefs are so much more than negative things you say to yourself on a daily basis. They are a set of beliefs drenched in lies that hold us back from being our most authentic selves and living our best lives.
By identifying our limiting beliefs, we can then learn to avoid them and ultimately transform our lives as we know them one thought and action at a time!
Why are your thoughts so important?
Whether you realize it or not, your thoughts dictate what actions you take on a daily basis, which means they have a dramatic effect on your life and well-being as a whole! This is why it’s so important to be incredibly mindful of your self-talk and re-direct your thoughts as needed. The nature of your thoughts and actions can literally make or break you by either making your life joyful or a living hell. The choice is yours! I’m personally a firm believer in, “If you can control your emotions, you are truly in control.”
To sum this up:
- Your thoughts dictate your feelings.
- Then your emotions dictate what actions you take on a daily basis.
- This is how your thoughts affect your lives as a whole!
In this article, I’ll be addressing how to stop self-sabotage at the source and achieve personal transformation by teaching you the 4 major categories of limiting beliefs.
It’s time to ditch the bitch that is your inner critic and start being kind to yourself!
Your brain is one hell of a drug!
There are several scientific experiments that demonstrate the power of the human mind. One hot topic of the subconscious mind these days is something called, “the placebo effect.” A placebo is a substance that has a positive effect on a person due to their perception (their thoughts), rather than the ingredient in the inactive substance used in placebo drugs. Many experiments have revealed that placebo drugs have worked better than the actual pharmaceutical drug themselves. This is a prime example of how powerful our minds really are.
Try to be more mindful of your thoughts for even just a week and stop yourself if any negativity occurs. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones and see what a difference it starts to make in your life. I assure you that you can achieve inner peace and attract the things you want in life if you become more mindful!
What are the 4 main categories of limiting beliefs?
1.) Monetary Limiting Beliefs
These types of beliefs can negatively affect your financial wealth in many different ways. Were you raised in a mid to lower-class home and taught to think that being rich is selfish? Or maybe you were taught at a young age that money is the root of all evil? Not saying that some rich people aren’t selfish and that some people use their wealth to do evil things, but what YOU do with YOUR financial wealth is completely up to you! If you work a job you hate and live paycheck to paycheck, chances are you have monetary limiting beliefs.
(Check out my latest e-book about monetary LB and how to rid them for good here!)
2.) Identity-related limiting beliefs
This category of limiting beliefs deals with your sense of self. Do you ever feel like you don’t know who you truly are? Maybe you’ve lost your sense of self over the years to traumatic experiences that you still need to work through. Whenever something great happens in your life do you feel guilty and think you don’t deserve happiness? If so, you may have identity-related limiting beliefs! I’ll be posting a link to my e-book all about these types of limiting beliefs in June 2022!
3.) Relationship limiting beliefs
This category doesn’t just have to do with romantic relationships. They include friendships, family relationships as well as work relationships. Do you have trouble attracting genuine people into your life? Are you having trouble leaving an unhealthy “relationshit” (a word I made up for toxic relationships), even though you KNOW in your heart that you deserve better? If so, you most likely have some relationship-related limiting beliefs.
4.) Health-related limiting beliefs
These beliefs are all about your physical and mental health. Do you constantly purchase gym memberships only to let your money go to waste considering you’ve only been there maybe 5 times over the past year? Is eating healthy like a chore to you? Maybe it’s easy for you to start a new, healthier routine, but is it hard to MAINTAIN it? You just might have health-related limiting beliefs!
